Russell Friedman
Russell arrived at The Grief Recovery Institute twenty one years ago, on the heels of a second, devastating divorce and a bankruptcy. Since then his mother died [in 1993] and he has experienced the deaths of other relative and close friends. But it is not his experience with grief that takes center stage – it his experience of recovery or completing the grief that enables him to guide others to their own completion.
Russell’s contributions to the Institute and to The Grief Recovery Handbook, When Children Grieve, and Moving On, focus a great deal of attention on losses other than death: divorce, financial change, health problems, moving, loss of faith, etc. Along with James, Friedman has pioneered more than 5000 Grief Recovery Outreach Programs throughout the world. Russell has appeared several times on CNN as an expert on dealing with grief – most notably in the aftermath of 9/11.
